Major achievements of ICT Department in recent years (3 years).
Last 31/07/2013 AD. This department was formed under the Department of Information and Communication Technology. The main task of the Directorate is to ensure and coordinate the use and application of ICT at all levels of government with the aim of developing Bangladesh into a middle-income country through the implementation of Vision 2021 announced by the government. Head office, 64 district offices and 488 upazila offices have already been setup. 202 officers including 195 ICT officers are working out of the total 756 approved manpower of the Directorate. 333 Class I Officers and 04 Class II Officers have been taken up for recruitment through PSC. Gazette notification of “Department of Information and Communication Technology (Gazetted and Non-Gazetted Officers and Employees) Recruitment Rules, 2015” has been published. From two projects of Bangladesh Computer Council, 200 ICT officers have been transferred to the Department of Revenue under the special consideration of the Honorable Prime Minister. The process of setting up 2000 computer labs in various educational institutions is going on through the project titled “Establishment of Computer and Language Training Labs in Educational Institutions across the country” which will be completed in June 2016.
Issues and Challenges:
In the financial year 2016-17, the availability of manpower according to the organizational structure of the directorate in the district office and upazilas of the district. Purchase/procurement of all vehicles, goods and office equipment under TO&E. Conducting training on ICT/e-services for officers/employees at district level and obtaining necessary budget for conducting training.
Future Plans:
Implementation of e-Governance by ensuring and coordinating the use and application of ICT in all government offices/institutions at the district level. Raising awareness of the members of the ICT Club established at Sheikh Russell Digital Lab established in the educational institution and providing necessary consultancy services and encouraging freelancing by organizing training on ICT for the members of the club.
Potential major achievements for the financial year 2016-17:
Providing training on ICT/e-services to district level officers/employees.
Completion of purchase of all office equipment and machinery as per TO&E.
Inspection of all labs to increase utilization of computer labs established in the district.
Providing necessary support and positive impact in increasing the prevalence of multimedia classroom use in teaching in educational institutions.
